Instrument Acquisition Fund
$5000 per year donation

During the 20th century most of Hungary’s fine musical instruments were taken out of the country. This program is designed to put very fine musical instruments into the hands of Hungary’s most talented musicians in order to create the sound the BFO needs.

International Children’s Concert Program
$10,000 per year donation

For more than 15 years, Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra have presented a unique and very successful series of children’s concerts in Budapest. These concerts are focused on children who are 5 to 10 years old. Soloists and ensembles from the Budapest Festival Orchestra play carefully selected works. The programs are interactive, with Iván Fischer as moderator: speaking, asking questions and introducing the music. Young children are motivated and interested in good music. The BFO plays 35-40 international concerts while on tour each year - we now wish to perform this unique form of children’s concerts worldwide.

Instrument Purchase
$25,000-$50,000 or Negotiated Price

In this program, the donor purchases the instrument and retains ownership, but the instrument is entailed to the orchestra. The donor may sell the instrument at profit in the future, but the instrument continues to be entailed to the orchestra. The very finest instruments cost considerable amounts of money and need, for their preservation and improvement, to be played by professional musicians.

New York City Gala Event
$10,000-$25,000

The US Friends of the Budapest Festival Orchestra holds annual Gala events where the BFO's concert is followed by an exclusive dinner for the Orchestra's friends and supporters. This event celebrates and supports the Orchestra’s international accomplishments and contributes towards building an expanding network of friends. Purchasing a table for ten guests at the Gala event is a wonderful way to support the BFO’s international presence. The next Gala event will be on the 26th of January, 2011. Pre-concert dinner takes place at the Promenade, Lincoln Center. The concert itself is in Avery Fisher Hall, featuring a Stravinsky-Haydn program.

Iván Fischer nails his very individual colours to the mast from the opening fanfares, with tiny rhetorical hesitations between the second and the third and third and fourth bars, and then a broadening as the full brass choir marches grimly towards the fanfares repeat. And if that initial description seems to signal an overstated reading, fear not: this Tchaik Four is anything but overstated.
