Festival Orchestra back from Japan
 Tokyo

The Festival Orchestra visited Japan between June 14th and 24th. This has been the BFO's fifth visit to Japan.

The tour consisted of seven concerts and started on June 16th at Tokyo's Seitoku University. On the 17th we performed in Toyama, on the 19th in Sasebo, on the 20th in Osaka's Symphony Hall. On June 21st we were awaited in Toyko's prestigious Opera City Concert Hall. Following a concert on the 22nd in Obihiro, the tour finished on June 23rd in Omiya.

All seven concerts were conducted by Music Director Iván Fischer who compiled the programmes of the tour of works by Rossini, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Brahms. The two soloists were Japanese violinist Mayuko Kamio playing Mendelssohn's Concerto, and József Lendvay who performed the Violin Concerto of Johannes Brahms.

Reflecting the huge success of its concerts, the BFO has been immidiately reinvited to Japan: our next visit will take place in the 2013/2014 season.

With so much run-of-the mill orchestral playing and conducting around, it is inspiring to encounter music-making as fresh and invigorating as this.
