Orchestral Concerts

You will find different kinds of concert cycles on this page, ranging from chamber music events to full-size symphony concerts. We want to serve the Budapest community with a large variety of music activities. We hope you will find what you are looking for. To make your search easier please read these short descriptions.

Orchestral concerts:
Most of these concerts are performed three times, the venue is the new Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.

"Haydn-Mozart Plus" concerts:
In this series you can hear the BFO as a chamber orchestra. These concerts feature the orchestra members as soloists. The repertoire is not exclusively Haydn and Mozart: we perform works of other composers, as well. The concerts take place at the Italian Cultural Institute.

Masterpieces for Brass - Masterpieces for Strings
As their name shows, these concerts highlight chamber orchestra masterpieces and concertos composed for brass and strings. These concerts are held in the Italian Cultural Institute.

Palace concert
This new series of the BFO invites audencies every year to a different palace of Hungary. The first concert is held in the beautiful Royal Palace of Gödöllő.

Sunday chamber music concerts:
These concerts are the best opportunity to hear the BFO's members as chamber musicians. It is our artistic policy to develop a pool of artists who are excellent both as orchestra and chamber musicians. The programmes are planned by the players; often they feature guests who join the BFO's members. The venue is our rehearsal building.

Cocoa concerts:
The cocoa concerts are visited by 5-12 year old children accompanied by adults. The works are short and specially designed for the concentration capacity of this age group. Usually solo works are performed by the BFO's members. Children love to listen to individual instruments: it is the best way to awaken their interest to choose an instrument themselves. After the one-hour programme they all receive a cup of cocoa.

Foreign tours:
We list our foreign tours here in order to help you if you want to listen to one of our concerts outside Hungary. Tickets are sold by local concert organizations, but we are very happy to help. Please contact us and we will pass on your ticket requirements.

The conductor {Marek Janowski} enabled the superbly proficient Budapest Festival Orchestra to fill the broad, romantic canvas with an abundance of colours. The conducting was characterised by a wonderful sense of structure, building to imposing heights.
Budapest, Muzsika, January 2001, Kristóf Csengery
